Abstract

Satellite communications (SatCom) are pivotal in modern connectivity, enabling global communications, remote sensing, and broadcasting. However, the growing demand for high-speed, reliable, and resilient communication networks necessitates innovations that transcend traditional digital or analog frameworks. This paper explores the convergence of digital and analog techniques in satellite communication systems, presenting a comprehensive analysis of how hybrid approaches enhance resilience and bandwidth efficiency. By leveraging digital signal processing (DSP) alongside analog techniques such as beamforming and frequency modulation, this convergence addresses challenges like interference, latency, and spectrum scarcity.

The study identifies key technical enablers of digital-analog convergence, including adaptive coding, modulation schemes, and hardware advancements like mixed-signal integrated circuits. We evaluate case studies and models demonstrating how hybrid systems outperform purely digital or analog designs in adverse conditions, such as signal degradation due to atmospheric disturbances. Real-world implementations, such as those in low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations and geostationary platforms, underline the practicality and scalability of these solutions.

Our findings indicate that digital-analog convergence optimizes spectral efficiency, improves link reliability, and reduces power consumption. Moreover, this approach supports the integration of emerging technologies such as 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and AI-driven network management into SatCom infrastructures. The paper concludes by outlining future research directions, including the development of energy-efficient hybrid architectures and dynamic spectrum allocation techniques.
