Abstract

The present review provides a thorough synopsis of the complex worldwide interaction between Information Technology (IT) and sustainable environmental management. It is more important than ever to comprehend how crucial IT is to promoting sustainability as the globe struggles with environmental issues. The study starts by recognizing the world’s urgent environmental problems, such as biodiversity loss, resource depletion, and climate change. It highlights how IT can be a game-changer in solving these issues and promoting sustainable practices in various sectors. The paper investigates how enhanced data collection, monitoring, and analysis made possible by IT might support environmental sustainability. It explores the function of technology like sensors, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and satellite imagery in delivering current environmental information. This knowledge makes better decision-making, resource management, and adopting environmentally friendly behaviors possible. The evaluation also examinesIT is contribution to energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction. Adopting energy management systems, smart grids, and ecologically friendly software solutions that optimize energy use and lessen environmental effects are covered. The notion of “green IT,” which emphasizes the value of using eco-friendly procedures in the design, manufacture, and disposal of IT equipment, is also covered in the assessment. Initiatives to reduce electronic waste and advance the circular economy in the IT sector are covered. Furthermore, the review’s worldwide viewpoint clarifies how IT promotes cooperation and information exchange across countries and companies. The assessment emphasizes technology’s role in accomplishing global environmental goals and highlights international cooperation’s need to leverage IT for sustainable environmental management.
