Abstract

This study aims to discover the challenges and facilitators associated with the implementation of assistive technologies among children with LV in India. The increasing prevalence of visual impairment demands the investigation of effective intervention that can improve learning and independence. This research implements a mixed method approach, collecting data both qualitative and quantitative from 231 children with LV across varied regions of India. Data were collected through surveys administered to care givers, parents, teachers along with in depth interviews to gain understandings into the experiences and perception of assistive technology users. Statistical analysis conducted to identify patterns in usage of AT, barriers to implementation and factors that influence its successful incorporation into daily activities. Findings suggest that while AT has a noteworthy positive impact on the educational outcomes of children with LV, challenges like limited access to device, insufficient awareness, lack of training, high costs remain prevalent. Though, parental involvement and training programs were recognized as a key implementors in overcoming these barriers. The study concludes by highlighting the need for more awareness, improves access to technology and targeted awareness to improve the adoption and effective use of AT for children with LV in India.
