Abstract
In any formal setup, the connection between organizational culture and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives is crucial for productivity, particularly when viewed through the lens of systems theory. Departing from traditional approaches that treat DEI as a collection of isolated programs, this study advocates for a holistic understanding that integrates DEI into the broader organizational framework. This article aims to assess whether traditional methods of value assessment and integration intersect effectively. Qualitative data gathered through snowball sampling from employees provides insights into perceptions of DEI practices and their impact on productivity. By analysing this data, the research identifies key leverage points—such as leadership, communication, values, and behaviours—that have the potential to hinder or enhance effective DEI strategies. The findings highlight the systemic nature of DEI practices and their influence on workplace culture, revealing successful models that align DEI goals with core values. This article proposes a systems-oriented framework for leaders to assess and refine their organizational culture to actively support DEI efforts. By addressing underlying cultural narratives rather than implementing superficial initiatives, organizations can cultivate sustainable change that enhances employee engagement and overall performance. Ultimately, this study emphasizes that DEI should be viewed as an integral component of a thriving organizational culture rather than an add-on.
