Abstract
The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has ignited growing concerns about their potential impact on employment. This study aims to explore the perceptions of unemployed youth regarding these technologies and their implications for the job market. A qualitative approach was adopted, involving in-depth interviews with 50 unemployed individuals aged 20-40. Participants were selected through purposive sampling until response saturation, ensuring a diverse representation of educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. The findings reveal a different perspective among unemployed youth, characterized by a mix of cautious optimism and concerns about job displacement. Participants acknowledged the need to adapt their skills to remain competitive in the face of automation. However, disparities in AI/ML awareness and preparedness were identified, particularly among individuals with lower educational backgrounds and limited technology access. This research contributes to the existing literature on the societal impacts of AI and ML by providing insights from the perspective of unemployed youth. The findings have implications for policymakers, educators, and employers, highlighting the need for targeted skill development programs and policy interventions to foster an inclusive and prepared workforce.
