Abstract
Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is a gram-negative predatory bacterium it is prey on harmful gram-negative bacteria. Their predatory nature is supported by various structural, biochemical, physiological and genetic adaptations. From their genetic studies it was found that their genes are specifically involved in prey recognition, chemotaxis, motility and to produce enzymes those are involved in nutrient acquisition and degradation of prey. Some important proteolytic enzymes and peptidoglycan hydrolases biochemically produced by them this can be used in biotechnological industries. Due to the presence of their distinct LPS various in vitro and in vivo studies shows that their use is safe and it can elicit minimal inflammatory responses in mammalian systems. They have some antibacterial properties including reduction of Klebsiella pneumooniae, Salmonella enteritidis like pathogens. Some significant characteristics of B.bacteriovorus makes them a non-toxic and novel alternative to the traditional antibiotics.
